#VODWFutureVoices

“I want to use my voice to campaign so I can have my rights, and can live and work like any other worker. I believe, if we collectively stand and fight together, we can win and achieve our goals.”

Biography

I am Mercy, and I am from the Philippines. I have been living in the UK for 14 years. I am married and I have two sons. I have 10 siblings, four boys and six girls, and even though we were so many children, I felt the eagerness of our parents to give us the best. I also want the best for my children, that's why I decided to work abroad. I first worked in Oman for five years as a nanny and housekeeper.

I came here to the UK in 2010. I was unaware of my rights and confused about my situation here in the UK and at times, I was also afraid – until I found the Voice of Domestic Workers in 2022. It made me happy because I found many friends. I became a member and joined the classes every Sunday and I am also a team member of the MediaCom Working Group of VoDW. We produce monthly newsletters, design campaigns, graphics, and videos through our MediaCom class.
